Block phishing and adult sites from your home’s network with one easy change

Updated June 5th, 2019.

Change your router’s DNS numbers to the OpenDNS Family Shield numbers

208.67.222.123 and
208.67.220.123

to automatically block phishing and adult sites from being delivered through your network. One change protects every device that uses the network. As a bonus, you’ll enjoy improved performance since OpenDNS has the fastest DNS service in the business.

For more control, use OpenDNS Home. You’ll have to create an account and do a little more work to set this up, but for that you get more options. Either way, it’s FREE!

Time Warner internet customers, in particular, should try the OpenDNS numbers as the servers Time Warner uses by default (their own) are frequently overloaded, requiring restarts of the Time Warner modem.

Restart each device on your network (Macs, iPads, iPhones, or– ugh– PCs) after changing the DNS numbers in order for the change to take effect.

OpenDNS has good tutorials on their website. If you’re using an Apple Airport just launch the Airport Utility and change the DNS numbers there.
