How to copy an image from a web page on a Mac

Ever go to a web page (try this one) on your Mac and wish you could copy some of the pictures, and send them to someone by email or text? It’s easy as pie.

1. Hold the Control key down
2. Click on the picture you want
3. Choose “Copy Image” from the menu.
4. Let go of the Control key and go to your email program or Messages and paste the image you copied.

Sometimes this isn’t going to work. You won’t see “Copy Image” every time. In that case, a quick screenshot– copied to the clipboard, not saved as a file– gets the image for you, and then you can go and paste. To do it:

Command-Shift-4, wait for the cross-hair cursor, click and drag a box around what you want to copy, then let go. Presto, your clipboard is loaded with whatever it is you copied. Try it!
