Get Mac System Information with a single click

Updated June 15th, 2019.

You probably know that going to the Apple menu and choosing “About This Mac” gives you a little window with a bit of information about your computer.

You’ll find a button in that window that gives you more info (in Mojave, that button is labeled “System Report…”).

Click the System Report… button and you get a whole lot of information, like so:

That’s pretty easy to do. But it takes two clicks: one to get the About This Mac window open, and one to click the System Report… button. Turns out you can do it in one click.

If you hold the Option key when you go to the Apple menu, “About This Mac” is replaced by “System Information…”, and if you click on “System Information…” you get the same report that clicking on “System Report…” produces– except this way, you do it all in one move, cutting your work in half.

About This Mac has changes to System Information... when you hold the Option key

Try it now, while you’re thinking of it.
